It was extraordinarily hot in the small room under the attic at the Burrow. Ron sat at his desk, clad only in his boxers, and chewed on the end of his quill. He couldn’t believe he was sitting and struggling with a way to invite Hermione to come to the Burrow. He ran his hand through his hair and stared at the blank parchment in front of him, and wished he knew what to say. Actually, he wanted to say a lot but couldn’t find the words. He wanted to tell her he fancied her and that he hoped she wasn’t planning to go to Bulgaria to visit Viktor Krum. He wanted to tell her he was sorry for yelling at her the night of the Yule Ball when he should have told her how beautiful she looked, and most of all he wanted to tell her how afraid he was for her and Harry.
Suddenly it came to him; he would make this about Harry, and that she should come to the Burrow so they could figure out the best way to help Harry.
Hermione,
Are you having a good holiday? Have you finished your homework yet? I’m writing to ask you to come to the Burrow for the rest of the summer. I know you just arrived at home but I think we need to be together for Harry. We need to find a way to get him away from those awful Muggles he lives with. Please say you’ll come. Send your answer back with Pig.
Ron
.
He lifted his quill and immediately began chewing on it again. He thought the letter was good but he didn’t want to sign it just Ron. Hermione always signed her letters, ‘With Love from Hermione’ and he sighed in frustration. He rose to pace back and forth in front of his desk, and he tried very hard to find away to sign the bloody letter without revealing how he really felt about her. On one hand if he just signed his name it would seem impersonal, and yet if he signed it your friend Ron, well she might totally miss the point. A battle seemed to wage inside him and finally he reached a compromise. He stalked back over to the desk and picked up his quill. After adding yours before his name he sealed it and grab Pig.
“Take this to Hermione,” he said sternly, “and wait for a reply.”
Ron watched as Pig flew off out the window and for one brief moment he wanted to call him back.

Hermione was sitting at her desk completely surrounded by schoolbooks. She began her homework as a way to take her mind off of Harry, Voldemort being back, and a stubborn red headed that filled her thoughts more often than not. Sighing she re-read the parchment and realized she’d written the same line twice.
This was ridiculous, how was she supposed to concentrate here in the Muggle world when Voldemort was formulating a plot against her best friend. She threw her quill down in disgust and tossed the parchment in the rubbish bin. She jumped when she heard a pecking noise against the window and was stunned to see Pig there.
She rushed to the window and flung it open to admit Pig who seemed slightly wilted from the heat. She pulled the letter from his leg and sat down in her chair to read, she slid the parchment open, and her hands trembled slightly with anticipation.
Ron had never written to her this quickly after the holidays had started, it was normally her that wrote first, and her heart leapt at the implication
Her eyes flew over the words, her heart dropping, and she bit back bitter tears that threatened. He wanted her to come to the Burrow so they could wisk Harry away from his Aunt and Uncle, not because he’d come to the realization that he fancied her. She read the letter again hoping that she could find something to make her want to go, and make her believe that maybe he felt the same way she did.
After a moment she saw it; he signed the letter ‘Yours Ron’, granted it looked like he went back and scribbled it in, but there it was. Hermione stared in disbelief at his words, a broad smile gracing her features, and her mind filled with the image of Ron
She could picture him sitting at his desk, his red hair tousled from running his hands through it, and of course he would be chewing the end of his quill as he composed the letter. She was so involved in her thoughts that she didn’t notice a large tawny owl fly in the open window until it hooted softly to get her attention.
She saw the Hogwarts seal on the parchment the owl was carrying and immediately dropped Ron’s letter to see whom from Hogwarts would be writing to her.
She almost didn’t want to open the letter, she felt a chill run through her, and her stomach jumped as she tore the seal on the parchment.
Miss Granger,
It has been brought to my attention that Mr. Weasley has invited you to the Burrow for the remainder of your holiday. I am asking you to accept the Weasleys hospitality in the interest of both the school and Harry Potter. I know both you and Mr. Weasley are willing to do anything to help Harry and I think the best thing for all concerned is for the two of you to make a united stand behind Harry. As you may imagine terrible things are going to be written in the Daily Prophet in regards to the mental health of Harry. I am urging you to accept the offer immediately. I would also like to speak to you and Ronald before either of you write to Harry. Please Owl me back with your decision.
Sincerely,
Professor Dumbledore
Hermione sat in stunned silence. She had already planned to say yes to Ron. She missed him, and quite frankly she missed bantering with him. The second letter had sealed her decision, and Hermione picked up a fresh piece of parchment and began to write.
Professor Dumbledore,
I will gladly take the Weasleys up on their offer to stay at their home for the holidays. I think I can speak for both of us by saying we simply want to help Harry in anyway possible. I am going to ask a favor of you. Please don’t tell Ron that you wrote asking me to go to the Burrow. I was going to go before you requested it and I would like Ron to believe that. If you could keep your letter and my response from Ron and his family I would greatly appreciate it. I will owl Ron now to let him know to expect my arrival at the Burrow.
Sincerely,
Hermione Granger
Hermione sealed the parchment and sent it off with the school owl. She slowly lifted another piece of parchment from and stared at the blank sheet for several moments.
Picking up her quill she began to write.
Ron,
I would love to come to the Burrow for the holidays. I totally agree that we need to get Harry away from those horrible people. I will try to arrive tomorrow as long as my parents have no objection. We should take this opportunity to work on our homework together. I have barely started but if we finish it we’ll have more time to figure out what to do about Harry. I’m looking forward to seeing you and I hate to admit it but I’ve missed you.
Plan on my arriving by floo powder after lunch tomorrow unless you hear otherwise.
With love from your,
Hermione. br />
She wondered if the closing was too bold, if it revealed too much.
She thought perhaps she should remove the your, it was true, and she had been his for a long time-he was just too thick to notice
With her heart pounding wildly in her chest, she sealed the envelope, and called Pig down to her.
“Okay Pig, take this to Ron,” she smiled and patted his head, “I promise to bring some owl treats for you.”
She bit her lip, her eyes watching until Pig was gone from view. She hoped he arrived safely at the Burrow, and in the back of her mind she realized she’d just entrusted a bit of her future to him.
